Selling grapes in Lugo.

At the age of 8 or 9 years old, in Prada's own words: "I remember well when my mother used to take me to the vineyards to help her carry the water to sulphate".

From those times Prada also remembers going with his father to tread the grapes after the grape harvest or taking the grapes from Chelva to the square in Lugo to sell them with his parents fresh and thus earn money.

At the age of 15, Prada joined the family store in Cacabelos.

He quickly transformed that commercial space into something unique. Among boots from Valverde del Camino and clothes impossible to find in the traditional market.

The shelves become a loudspeaker of the authentic Bierzo.

While everyone looked to industry, Prada turned to its roots.

It opted for transforming local products with care, respecting the times and traditional forms. It revalued what for others was "the usual" and turned it into a modern luxury: natural, scarce, honest.

Prada is committed to traditional recipes and natural ingredients.

The dream of giving value to Bierzo products begins to take shape, with the first artisan preserves made with cherries, peppers and chestnuts.

La Moncloa de Cacabelos also opens, a space where all this begins to be shown to the public: not as a showcase, but as a way of life.

Today that philosophy continues to beat in every jar that comes out of the Palacio de Canedo.

The origin of our winery.

In 1987 he bought the Señorío de Canedo palace where he added to the tradition of the palace all the current technology to produce wines with the Mencía grape variety.New vineyards were planted in old lands and in other nearby lands, to get different grapes and obtain extraordinary wines...

Where others saw a ruin, Prada saw a symbol.

He bought the Palace and restored it stone by stone. It was not only an architectural rehabilitation: it was a declaration of intentions. There he united his winery, his workshop, his restaurant and his dream of doing things well, from the inside.

Aware that the product is not enough if the environment is not protected, the Foundation was created.

An initiative that defends the landscape, traditional architecture and local knowledge. The Foundation gives a voice to the land, to those who care for it and to those who still believe that it is possible to do things well.

In the area of Los Barredos, near the Palace, the Didactic Forest is born.

Eight hectares with more than 50 tree species. A living and open space where schools, families and curious people can learn to look at the landscape with different eyes.

The month of June 2022 brought with it a day that will remain forever in the memory of all of us who are part of Prada A Tope. The Palacio De Canedo winery witnessed the appointment of Prada as Favorite Son of El Bierzo.

This appointment was a great tribute to his pioneering work in the promotion of the products and culture of El Bierzo.

At more than 80 years old, Prada has not stopped.

From a new liqueur recipe to an experimental plantation of native varieties, everything continues to pass through his hands. His formula has not changed: authenticity, hard work, love for the land.
